BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL PRESENTED BY EVIE—Brisbane, Australia

Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov won his ninth career title and first since 2017 on Sunday in Brisbane, Australia, defeating top seed Holger Rune 7-6(5), 6-4.

In a match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes, Dimitrov hit eight aces, won 77 percent of first serve points and broke serve on one occasion. Striking 28 winners in total, Dimitrov improved to 2-1 against Rune in lifetime meetings.

Rune, who was looking to capture fifth career title, will enter next week’s Australian Open as one of the favourites to win the title.

Dimitrov had previously won the ATP Finals in 2017 as his last title on Tour. The 32-year-old will be ranked No. 13 in the world on Monday.

Rune will stay at No. 8 on the computer.
