Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov won his ninth career title and first since 2017 on Sunday in Brisbane, Australia, defeating top seed Holger Rune 7-6(5), 6-4.
In a match that lasted two hours and 16 minutes, Dimitrov hit eight aces, won 77 percent of first serve points and broke serve on one occasion. Striking 28 winners in total, Dimitrov improved to 2-1 against Rune in lifetime meetings.
Rune, who was looking to capture fifth career title, will enter next week’s Australian Open as one of the favourites to win the title.
Dimitrov had previously won the ATP Finals in 2017 as his last title on Tour. The 32-year-old will be ranked No. 13 in the world on Monday.
Rune will stay at No. 8 on the computer.

BANK OF CHINA HONG KONG TENNIS OPEN—Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Top seed Andrey Rublev started his year off in style in Hong Kong, Hong Kong on Sunday, defeating Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes.
Adding five aces and 13 winners to his impressive victory, Rublev has now won at least one title for the past six years.
The 26 year old will remain at No. 5 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Ruusuvuori, who is still aiming to win his first Tour title, was playing in his second-career final (Pune, India 2022).
The 24-year-old will move up to No. 50 in the world on Monday. He dismissed Karen Khachanov earlier in the event.
