Dimitrov wins Brisbane title; Bautista Agut captures Chennai crown

BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL PRESENTED BY SUNCORP—BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov won his fifth career title on the ATP World Tour on Sunday in Brisbane, Australia, defeating No. 3 seed Kei Nishikori 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. In a topsy-turvy match that took one hour and 49 minutes to complete, Dimitrov struck seven aces and won 79 percent of his first serve points. Winning his first match against Nishikori in four encounters, Dimitrov will enter the Australian Open in prime form. Nishikori, who was looking to win the 12th title of his career, fell short of creating a break point in the third set against his younger opponent.

To his credit, Dimitrov defeated three top 10 players in a row (Dominic Thiem, Milos Raonic and Nishikori) to capture the title in Brisbane.

AIRCEL CHENNAI OPEN—CHENNAI, INDIA

Displaying his ultra consistent style of tennis throughout the event, Roberto Bautista Agut claimed his fifth career title over Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4 in Chennai, India on Sunday. Keeping the match straight forward, Bautista Agut converted on a break of serve in each set and never allowed his 20-year-old opponent a break point throughout the one hour and 14 minute contest.

Currently ranked No. 14 in the world, Bautista Agut also made it two years in a row that he won a title in January.

Medvedev, who was playing in his first-career Tour final, has made a steady rise up the rankings to be currently ranked No. 99 in the world.
