The last grand slam of the year, the US Open, is fast approaching. It is one of the most wagered-on tournaments at GGBet. Tennis players will also be looking to get in shape for the competition. However, some will be more prepared than others, and some are simply better than others. We’ll be looking at the most in-form Women Tennis players in view of the upcoming US Open.
Iga Swiatek
The world’s no. 1 player sits comfortably at the top of our list. Her record for 2023 is currently 51-9. Although she recently lost in the Semi-finals of the Canadian Open to current world no 3, Pegula, we expect her to power back for the US Open. The 22-year-old is the reigning champion of the US Open. It is also good to note that about 52% of returning champions have retained the title.
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka is placed second in the current Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. She won her first singles grand slam title by winning the Australian Open this year. She would be looking to replicate that in the US Open as well. Interestingly, both the Australian Open and the US Open are played on hard courts. She is definitely one to look out for.
Elena Rybakina
Rybakina is placed fourth in the WTA rankings, but in terms of preparedness for the US Open, we place her in the number 3 position. She is currently in the semi-finals of the Canadian Open and will be playing against Liudmila Samsonova (WTA ranking: 18). She is known for excellent and powerful serves. The 24-year-old won the 2022 Wimbledon title, her first major title.
Jessica Pegula
Pegula is the current world no. 3 and will maintain that spot thanks to her win over Iga Swiatek in the Semi-finals of the Canadian Open. The American is known for her consistency and professionalism. Despite this, she has never crossed the quarterfinals of any major tournament and is consequently placed fourth on our list.
Ons Jabeur
Fifth-placed Jabeur lost, in consecutive sets, to Vondrousouva in the Wimbledon finals. She was apparently pained as she lost a chance to win her first Major. She was also the runner-up at the 2022 Wimbledon and US Open. After missing the Canadian Open, she will be preparing hard to get to the finals of the US Open and snatch the title for herself.
Caroline Garcia
Garcia may have lost four of her last six singles matches, but she still earns a spot as one of the most prepared players for the US Open. She is the current WTA Finals Champion and lost at the Semi-finals of the US Open in 2022. An early exit from the Canadian Open also means she has had enough time to prepare adequately for the last majors of the year.
To sum up
This year’s US Open will be keenly contested, with Iga Swiatek looking to defend her title and other top players trying to make a statement. Other honorable mentions include the 19-year-old American sensation Cori Gauff and Greece’s Maria Sakkari.
