Open 13 Provence—Marseille, France

Bergs Advances to Marseille Quarterfinals; Alexandrova Defeats Pegula to Reach Doha Semifinals

Talented Belgium player Zizou Bergs reached the quarterfinals of the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France on Thursday, defeating No. 8 seed and Portuguese No. 1 Nuno Borges 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Bergs, who is currently ranked No. 62 in the world, hit 13 aces, won 84 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on four occasions.

The 25-year-old will next face either No. 4 seed Hubert Hurkacz or Zhizhen Zhang.

Top seed Daniil Medvedev will see his first action of the week against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, and German Jan-Lennard Struff will take on local qualifier Hugo Grenier.

Medvedev will be looking to win his first title since capturing the Rome Masters in Italy in 2023. He last made a final on Tour at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California last March.

Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025—Doha, Qatar

Thursday’s action at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 in Doha, Qatar featured Ekaterina Alexandrova defeating US Open finalist Jessica Pegula to reach the semifinals, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Pegula, who has always been one of the best hard-court players in the world, couldn’t hold onto her lead after capturing the first set.

Alexandrova had defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the event.

She needed one hour and 42 minutes to advance, which included hitting two aces, winning 70 percent of her first serve points and breaking her American opponent on six occasions.

Alexandrova will await the winner of Marta Kostyuk or Amanda Anisamova. Kostyuk defeated Magda Linette on Wednesday, while Anisamova easily dismissed Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-0.

Other matches on the schedule on Thursday will be highlighted by Iga Swiatek taking on No. 5 seed Elena Rybakina, and Ons Jabeur facing former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.

Swiatek is aiming to win the Qatar title for the fourth year in a row.
