Barty, Zverev Win Western & Southern Open Titles

Western & Southern Open—Cincinnati, Ohio

World No. 1 Ash Barty and Olympic Gold Medalist Alexander Zverev captured the Western & Southern Open titles on Sunday in Cincinnati, Ohio.

First up, Barty dismissed the surprise on the women’s side Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1.

Needing one hour and 13 minutes to capture her crown, Barty hit eight aces, won 86 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.

Claiming her fifth title of the season, Barty recently won The Wimbledon Championships. Entering the US Open as the clear favourite, Barty now owns 13 career titles.

Teichmann, who dismissed Naomi Osaka, Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova earlier in the event, will be ranked No. 45 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released (an increase of 31 spots).

Second up on centre court, recent Gold Medalist Zverev collected his first title in Cincinnati over inform Russian, Andrey Rublev. Defeating his fellow top ten opponent 6-2, 6-3, Zverev also notched the 17th title of his young career.

Slamming six aces and winning 93 percent of his first serve points, Zverev improved to 5-0 against Rublev in lifetime meetings.

Rublev, who was looking to win his first Masters 1000 title, dispatched top seed Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the semifinals.
