Thursday’s action at the 2025 Tiriac Open presented by UniCredit Bank in Bucharest, Romania saw No. 1 seed Sebastian Baez progress to the quarterfinals, defeating Canadian upstart Gabriel Diallo 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2.
Needing two hours and 16 minutes to advance, Baez hit one ace, struck six winners, won 69 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on four occasions.
The Argentine will next face countryman Francisco Comesana for a place in the semifinals. Comesana dismissed former top 10 players Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday.
Other matches that are still on deck on Thursday will see No. 7 seed Mariano Navone take on defending champion Marton Fucsovics and No. 4 seed Nicolas Jarry face Christopher O’Connell.

No. 8 seed Mattia Bellucci reached the quarterfinals in Marrakech, Morocco on Thursday, dismissing French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2. 7-5.
Needing only one hour and 24 minutes to progress, Bellucci will await either top seed Tallon Griekspoor or Pablo Carreno Busta for a place in the final four.
No. 2 seed Lorenzo Sonego and No. 7 seed Luciano Darderi will be in action later today.

Tiafoe on Deck in Houston Opener
Two-time US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe will make his first appearance at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston, Texas on Thursday, facing Adam Walton from Australia.
Tiafoe, who is 6-6 in 2025, is currently ranked No. 17 in the world. He previously won the Houston title in 2023.
Other matches that will take place on Thursday will include No. 4 seed Brandon Nakashima facing Mackenzie McDonald, Kei Niskikori taking on Christoper Eubanks and No. 5 seed Alex Michelsen going up against lucky loser Adrian Mannarino.
