Djokovic Claims Eastbourne Title; Sugita Wins Maiden Title in Antalya

Even though there’s still nearly a year left until next year’s edition of the 2020 Australian Open, fans and players alike are already counting down the days until the action from Down Under begins again.

Dominated by Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka this year, the Australian Open betting odds were right on point for the winners of the previous Grand Slam in New York City. For Djokovic, his master-class of Rafael Nadal clinched a record seventh title in Australia and moved him to sole position of third place on the all-time grand slam list with 15. The Serb trails Nadal (17) and leader Roger Federer with 20 Majors.

That said, with the form that he’s currently displaying and his streak of winning three-straight Majors, Djokovic is already the odds on favourite to win his eighth title down under next January. From his early domination of his Spanish opponent, Djokovic didn’t put a step wrong during his three set dismantling of his career-long rival. Hard-courts are simply tailor-made for Djokovic and his onslaught on the surface will likely continue for years to come.

With three retractable roofs on site that will ensure play in rain or shine and a sporting culture that is second to none around the world, the Australian Open has quickly become the fan friendly Slam of many players and spectators.

On the women’s side, Osaka proved that her victory in NYC was no lucky matter. The 21-year-old Japanese star showcased that her mental game was just as good as her physical prowess by dispatching Petra Kvitova in three tough sets. Using her hard-hit ground-strokes and well-placed serve, Osaka’s rise to the No. 1 ranking in the world comes as no surprise. After her claim to fame in Palm Springs last Spring, the youngster has consistently been a serious force to deal with on the WTA.

All in all, if you’re ever in the market to visit one of the four Majors and you’re struggling to make that decision, think about all of the sights and sounds and the friendly vibes you will receive from the folks Down Under.

The sensational tennis won’t be the only memory you’ll take away from your fortnight in Australia.
