Australian Open 2021 Preview Day 9: Tennis world, meet Aslan Karatsev

Russian-born ATP Tour player Aslan Karatsev had nothing short of a remarkable 2021 ATP Tour season. Ranked outside of the top 100 to begin the year, Karatsev now holds a 37-30 career win/loss record.

His coach Vladimir Rabinovich helped Karatsev to take his game to another level. The first match Karatsev was involved in took place in September 2007.

As a junior, Karatsev also posted commendable results in all-four Grand Slams, but it wasn’t known at that time if we would make it as a professional player.

The First Victory on the ATP Tour

It goes without saying that the ATP Tour is where all players want to be. It’s where players can showcase their talents and build the rankings, career, and prize money.

In 2015, Karatsev managed to win his first main-draw match at the Kremlin Cup. He faced off against former top tenner and countryman, Mikhail Youzhny.

A Debut at the Davis Cup

Davis Cup (which begins this week), is where Karatsev showed off his talents on a National scale. Accordingly, he was proud to represent his country.

It was always a dream for Karatsev to play for his country and he would make sure that he acquitted himself accordingly.

Overall, he finished the year of 2016 ranked No. 235 in singles and No. 618 in doubles.

His First Two Finals and Two Losses

Moving onto the 2020 season, Karatsev’s career started to take flight.

In a year marred by the COVID-19 pandemic and all of its limitations, the Russian began to make his way up the rankings. Reaching the finals of the 2020 Challenger tournament held in Bangkok, Karatsev then made the finals Prague, winning the title.

However, not everything went as smoothly for Karatsev and he also experienced many losses.

Most notably, he reached the third round of the French Open in September—a loss that would hurt very much—but would eventually help to springboard him into the 2021 season.

A 2021 Season to Remember

Back to the future and Karatsev’s remarkable 2021 season.

After reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open as a qualifier, Karatsev continued his momentum by winning the Dubai Open over Lloyd Harris.

Following up his maiden victory with a finals appearance Belgrade, Karatsev experienced a relative lull in form before picking up his second career victory over Marin Cilic in Moscow. Performances like this and many other tennis matches can be bet on at Parimatch apk.

Peaking at No. 15 in the world in November, Karatsev finished 2021 ranked No. 18. His remarkable journey saw him improve from No. 114 at the beginning of the season.
