As Roy Emerson Tennis Weeks Continue at Gstaad Palace, the Legend is Awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by Swiss Tennis

Gstaad, August 17, 2017 – Described by Wimbledon as ‘one of the greatest ever men to wield a tennis racket,’ former tennis Number One, Roy Emerson, has been awarded the golden Badge of Honor by Swiss Tennis in recognition for all that he has done for the sport. Roy’s second home is the tennis courts of Gstaad Palace, where he is welcomed back every summer to share his expertise with the hotel’s guests during the annual series of Roy Emerson Tennis Weeks.

Roy, who holds the Men’s World Record of 28 Grand Slam Titles, was also five time winner of the Swiss Open, held annually in Gstaad; the Saanenland court is now named the Roy Emerson Arena.

A location close to the Australian sportsman’s heart, Roy has been visiting Gstaad and Gstaad Palace for over four decades to play ‘tennis in paradise.’ Together, Gstaad Palace and Roy Emerson created a series of Tennis Weeks which have been held exclusively at the Palace since 1974.

The Roy Emerson Tennis Weeks combine the hotel’s stylish accommodation, exceptional and personalised service, gourmet cuisine and unparalleled facilities (with four tennis courts on-site) and in-person tuition from Roy Emerson and his international group of professionals. They are available annually at Gstaad Palace throughout the summer season (June – August).

This month, Swiss Tennis – the governing body of tennis in Switzerland – bestowed the esteemed Badge of Honor upon Roy Emerson which was decided upon by their President, René Stammbach and unanimously backed by the organization’s delegates.

Andrea Scherz, General Manager of Gstaad Palace, whose father came up with the idea for the Tennis Weeks at the Palace together with Roy, said, “We are, of course, very proud of Roy and his wife, Joy. Having had this champion in our midst for almost 35 years is a great privilege and his tennis camps are as special as he is.”

The Roy Emerson Tennis Weeks at the Gstaad Palace have been recognized as the best tennis camp in the world by Tennis Resorts Online, 2008 – 2016.

Additionally, Roy and Joy – who know the Saanenland well from their time spent in the area – can arrange excursions in the mountains or a fun team evening in Gildo’s Restaurant at Gstaad Palace.

The camp includes:
