Sinner, Djokovic and Draper Withdraw from National Bank Open in Toronto

[TORONTO, ON] July 20, 2025 – Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic have been forced to withdraw from the 2025 National Bank Open (NBO) presented by Rogers in Toronto as they recover following Wimbledon, Tennis Canada confirmed on Sunday.

Sinner (elbow) won his first title at the All-England Lawn and Tennis Club last weekend, defeating World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to claim his fourth Grand Slam title. Sinner, 23, has previously enjoyed success in Canada, lifting the NBO trophy in 2023 in Toronto, his first Masters 1000 title.

“I’m really disappointed to be missing the National Bank Open in Toronto, especially as I have such fond memories of playing in Canada. Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover,” Sinner said. “I would like to thank Karl Hale, the Tournament Director, for everything he does to support us as players, and I’m looking forward to returning to Canada and Toronto in the future to play in front of the great fans.”

Djokovic (groin), a 24-time Grand Slam winner, reached the semifinals at Wimbledon. He has won a record 40 Masters titles during his career, including four at the NBO.

“We’re disappointed that Jannik and Novak won’t be playing the National Bank Open this year,” said Karl Hale, Tournament Director, NBO Toronto. “They’re both great champions, and we know that our fans were eager to see them play at Sobeys Stadium. They will both be missed, but we still have an incredibly strong player field for this year’s tournament.”

JACK DRAPER ALSO WITHDRAWS

Tennis Canada also announced that Jack Draper (No. 5) from Great Britain and Jordan Thompson (No. 39) from Australia have withdrawn from the NBO due to injury. As a result of these withdrawals, Roberto Carballes Baena, Sebastian Ofner, Roman Safiullin and Aleksandar Kovacevic will now gain automatic entry into the main draw.
