Defending Champion Humbert Advances in Marseille; Ostapenko Defeats Swiatek to Reach Doha Final
Friday’s quarterfinal action at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France featured defending champion Ugo Humbert reaching the semifinals, dismissing No. 7 seed Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 38 minutes to prevail, Humbert hit five aces, won 85 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on two occasions.
Humbert will next face Zizou Bergs for a place in Sunday’s final.
Bergs advanced when his opponent Zhizhen Zhang retired after losing the first set 7-5.
Still to come on Friday, top seed Daniil Medvedev will face Jan-Lennard Struff.
The day’s action will conclude with Hamad Medjedovic going up against Daniel Altmaier.

Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025—Doha, Qatar
No. 2 seed and three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek failed to reach the finals of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 in Doha, Qatar on Friday, losing to former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-1.
Needing one hour and 10 minutes to advance, Ostapenko hit four aces, won 69 percent of her first serve points, and broke her Polish opponent on five occasions.
Swiatek was aiming to win her fourth-straight title in Doha.
Ostapenko will next face either Ekaterina Alexandrova or Amanda Anisamova in Saturday’s final.
Alexandrova ousted No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula in three sets on Thursday, and Anisamova defeated Marta Kostyuk in three sets as well.
Alexandrova and Anisamova have met twice on Tour, with the pair splitting their two previous meetings.
