Shapovalov Advances in Basel; Boulter Wins in Tokyo
A busy day at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Switzerland featured talented Canadian Denis Shapovalov advancing to the second round.
Defeating Juncheng Shang 6-1, 6-4, Shapovalov needed one hour and eight minutes to advance.
Adding 11 aces, 89 percent of his first serve points won and breaking serve on three occasions, Shapovalov will next face either No. 2 seed Casper Ruud or recent Antwerp winner Roberto Bautista Agut.
Elsewhere, Swiss favourite Dominic Stricker ousted the always dangerous Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 6-4.
No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 4 seed Holger Rune and No. 6 seed Ben Shelton will also be in action on Tuesday.
De Minaur Advances in Vienna
Australian No. 2 seed Alex de Minuar advanced to the second round of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, Austria on Tuesday, defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 41 minutes to advance, de Minaur used his court speed and return game to break his opponent on four occasions. De Minaur also added 28 winners to his victory. The 25-year-old will next face Flavio Cobolli for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other winners on the day included Miomir Kecmanovic taking out Mariano Navone 6-2, 6-4. The Serbian will go up against Jakub Mensik in round two.
No. 5 seed Frances Tiafoe, No. 7 seed Jack Draper and home-country hero Dominic Thiem are still to come on Tuesday.
Thiem, who is playing in his final event as a professional, will take on Luciano Darderi from Italy.

Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis
No. 9 seed Katie Boulter started her campaign in style on Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan, defeating Priscilla Hon 6-1, 6-4.
Adding four aces and five breaks of serve to her victory, Boulter will next face Kyoka Okamura from Japan in the second round.
Other winners on the day included Moyuka Uchijima, Clara Tauson, Sayaka Ishii, Mccartney Kessler and Sofia Kenin.
Kenin, who won the Australian Open in 2020, dismissed No. 10 seed Xinyu Wang.
Wednesday’s action will highlight No. 2 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia taking on Bianca Andresscu and No. 8 seed Leylah Fernandez facing Varvara Gracheva.
Top seed Katerina Siniakova Advances in Guangzhou
Top seed and Olympic Gold Mixed Doubles winner Katerina Siniakova won her first match at the Guangzhou Open presented by AVATR in China on Tuesday, dispatching Petra Martic 6-2, 6-1.
Currently ranked No. 48 in the world, Siniakova will next face Alycia Parks from the United States.
Other winners on the day included No. 2 seed Marie Bouzkova, No. 3 seed Yue Yuan, No. 4 seed Elina Avanesyan, No. 5 seed Diane Parry, No. 7 seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Shuai Zhang, Bernarda Pera, Xiyu Wang, Mananchaya Sawangkaew and Han Shi.
