Sinner Wins in Halle
Newly crowed world No. 1 Jannik Sinner was made to work on Tuesday in Halle, Germany, needing three sets to oust Tallon Griekspoor 6-7(8), 6-3, 6-2.
Sinner, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, recently reached the semifinals of the French Open.
The Italian star needed two hours and 22 minutes to advance to the second round. He recorded 15 aces, hit won 79 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
The 22-year-old will next face Fabian Marozsan for a place in the quarterfinals.
Marcos Giron, Alexander Bublik, James Duckworth, Christopher Eubanks and Arthur Fils also reached the second round of Tuesday.

Alcaraz Advances at Queen’s Club
Recent French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz began his title defence at the Queen’s Club event in London, England in style on Tuesday, defeating Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 7-5.
Striking two aces, winning 79 percent of his first serve points, and hitting 16 winners, Alcaraz improved to 1-0 against Cerundolo in lifetime meetings.
Alcaraz, who is also the defending champion at Wimbledon, showed his ability to transition from clay to grass courts was in top form.
The entertaining Spaniard will next face Jack Draper or Marino Navone.
Other results on the day saw No. 2 seed Alex de Minaur losing in three sets to Lorenzo Musetti, and American Taylor Fritz joining Matteo Arnaldi, Sebastian Korda and Alejandro Tabilo in round two.
