Djokovic Advances Over Moutet at Italian Open

Friday’s results at the Italian Open in Rome, Italy featured top seed Novak Djokovic advancing to the third round, defeating talented Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3, 6-1,

Djokovic, who has not competed on Tour since the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco, will next face … for a place in round four.

The Serbian legend struck five winners, won 59 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on four occasions.

After the match, Djokovic was hit in the head by a fan’s water bottle. He is currently on his way to the hospital.

Other winners on the day saw No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev,  No. 8 seed Grigor Dimitrov, No. 12 seed Ben Shelton, Nuno Borges, Zhizhen Zhang, Terence Atmane and Luciano Darderi all advance to the round of 32.

Miomir Kecmanovic upset inform Norwegian Casper Ruud 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 later in the day.

Sabalenka Advances

On the women’s side, No. 2 seed and recent Madrid Open finalist Aryna Sabalenka cruised into the third round, dispatching Katie Volynets 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The reigning Australian Open winner will next face either Dayana Yastremska or Laura Siegemund.

No. 5 seed Maria Sakkari defeated Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-2 and Sara Sorribes Tormo ousted No. 20 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

No. 9 seed Jelena Ostapenko, No. 13 Danielle Collins, No. 16 seed Elena Svitolina, No. 22 Caroline Garcia, and No. 24 Victoria Azarenka all moved into the third round.

Former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin dispatched No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

Saturday’s schedule in Rome will be highlighted by ten-time winner Rafael Nadal facing No. 8 seed Hubert Hurkacz. Dane Holger Rune will also see his first action at the event and women’s top seed Iga Swiatek will look to carry on with her clay-court dominance against….
