Rolex Monte Carlo Masters—Monaco
Top seed and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic breezed into the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday, defeating Roman Safiullin 6-1, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 10 minutes to advance, Djokovic will next face Arthur Fils and Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the fourth round.
Djokovic recently became the oldest ever world No. 1 and will be aiming to win his third Monte Carlo Masters title this week. A feat that would secure him the accolade of winning all nine Masters 1000 title at least three times.
Elsewhere, No. 10 seed Hubert Hurkacz, No. 11 seed Alex de Minaur and Sebastian Korda all reached the third round.
Wednesday’s action in Monaco will feature inform Italian Jannik Sinner and former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev.
World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the event earlier in the day with an arm injury.
