Friday’s schedule of play at the US Open featured American Tommy Paul and No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek advancing to the fourth-round of the event.
Paul needed four sets to oust feisty Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, while Swiatek lost all but one game in cruising past Kaja Juvan.
Paul will next face Ben Shelton and Swiatek will take on Jelena Ostapenko for a place in the quarterfinals.
American favourite Frances Tiafoe needed four sets to move past Adrian Mannarino and Rinky Hijikata eliminated Zhizhen Zhang in four sets.
Elsewhere, No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova and Wang Xinyu also reached the fourth round.
Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki continuing her great run of form, dismissing Jennifer Brady in three sets. Wozniacki had been retired for three years from the Tour.
Late on Friday night, Novak Djokovic needed five sets to dismiss his countryman Laslo Djere. The legendary Serb will face Borna Gojo in the fourth round.
American Coco Gauff dazzled the hometown fans in dispatching No. 32 seed Elise Mertens in three sets, while No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina was sent packing by Sorana Cirstea.
Saturday’s schedule in New York will feature Carlos Alcaraz attempting to reach the fourth round against No. 26 seed Dan Evans and No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula will look to reach the sweet 16 when she takes on No. 26 seed Elina Svitolina.
