Tennis is a wonderful sport with a rich and long history. Nevertheless, tennis’ popularity has declined in recent decades, and other racket sports have gained in popularity. This is very unfortunate because tennis is a great sport for children, teens, adults, and seniors.

Why is tennis good?

But then why is tennis such a great sport for everyone? Below we will explain to you why this is the case, and by doing so, we hope to persuade you to play tennis.

Accessible to all ages:

For tennis, it doesn’t matter how old you are. Whether you are four years old and just starting tennis, or seventy and have been playing tennis for over fifty years, the sport always provides a lot of fun.

In addition, lessons are available for all ages, and there are always plenty of peers to play with at each tennis club.

Social interaction:

Tennis is also a social affair. Children learn at an early age to play together with other children. But in addition, they will also learn to deal with loss and adversity. They will take these traits with them throughout the rest of their development.

Most tennis clubs also host plenty of events, such as tournaments, leagues, mix nights, and sometimes even parties. This way, both young and old will have plenty of opportunities to get to know other tennis enthusiasts.

Relatively cheap to begin with:

To start playing tennis, you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money. While it used to be somewhat known as an elite sport for people with a little more money, these days, that doesn’t have to be the case at all.

You can, of course, make tennis as expensive as you want. But as a beginner, all you need is a racket, shoes, balls, and sports clothes. If you search well and purchase equipment for beginners, for around $100 dollars, you could start playing tennis.

Of course, you can buy another racket, a tennis bag, and better shoes as you get better. But this is absolutely not a must when you are a beginning tennis player.

Good for exercise:

Tennis, of course, is also a great sport for getting exercise. You are actively engaged, ensuring that you improve your fitness, keep fit and mobile, but also train your mind. All this contributes to overall good health.

What do you need to play tennis?

To start playing tennis, you don’t need much at all. The only really essential things are a racket, balls, shoes, and sportswear. You can often borrow someone’s racket, in the beginning, to see if you like the sport.

You only need this for tennis:

–      Racket

–      Shoes

–      Balls

–      Sportswear

If you are sure you want to take up the sport, you can buy your own racket. Again, this does not have to be expensive at all. Beginner rackets can be bought for as little as $50 and will last you for quite some time.

Once you notice that you are getting better and more serious, you can start thinking about buying a better racket. Starting at about $150, you have a professional racket, and this price can go up to about $250 to $300.

What to know before start playing tennis:

Before starting a sport, it is always good to educate yourself somewhat about it. By reading up, you can acquire basic knowledge that will make everything you will learn later easier to understand.

Moreover, not every beginning tennis player will start lessons right away, either. Especially if you are not taking lessons, it is extra important to know the most important basic rules. That way, you can still play a game and learn more about the sport through play.

But even if you plan to take tennis lessons, it is wise to have some basic knowledge beforehand. The more knowledge you have beforehand, the easier it will be for you during the lessons.

Things that are useful to know in advance:

–      Basic rules

–      Type of strokes

–      Point scoring system

–      How do the lines work

Where to find this information?

Now, of course, you’re wondering how you get this information. Fortunately, with the advent of the Internet, this has become much easier. For example, if you want to study basic strokes, YouTube videos are recommended. There are very helpful videos on here that explain all the strokes to you step by step. Because it’s a video, you can see exactly what each stroke looks like, and you can even join in at home with a racket in your hand.

If you are looking for some more extensive and in-depth information about tennis, such as the rules, equipment advice, player information, and answers to more specific questions, then your best bet is to find a good website.

One of the better websites about tennis is Yoursportsguide.com Here you will find all the information you need as a tennis player.
