Friday’s action at Wimbledon featured top seed Novak Djokovic breeze by fellow Serb Miomir Kecmanovic 6-0, 6-3, 6-4. Djokovic, who has won the last three additions of Wimbledon, will next face unheralded Dutch player Tim van Rijthoven.
Van Rijthoven ousted No. 22 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Elsewhere, Spanish upstart Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the fourth round for the first time, defeating German Oscar Otte 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Alcaraz, who has been the talk of the tennis world on the men’s side this year, will next face No. 10 seed Jannik Sinner. Sinner defeated No. 20 seed John Isner 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Other men’s winners on the day included No. 10 seed Cameron Norrie, No. 23 seed Frances Tiafoe, No. 30 seed Tommy Paul, and David Goffin.
On the women’s side, talented Tunisian Ons Jabeur reached the fourth round after dismissing Diane Parry 6-2, 6-3. Jabeur will next face Elise Mertens, who defeated former winner Angie Kerber in 6-4, 7-5.
Other women’s winners on the day included Heather Watson, Jelena Ostapenko, Tatjana Maria, Jule Niemeier, Caroline Garcia and Marie Bouzkova.
Saturday’s action at the All England Club will featured Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek and the highly anticipated encounter between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios.
