Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemex—Los Cabos, Mexico

No. 2 seed Sam Querrey claimed his 10th career title on Saturday in Los Cabos, Mexico, defeating Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. In a entertaining match which featured great hitting from the baseline, Querrey established himself early by taking the first set. Not to be outdone, Kokkinakis stormed back in set two to level the contest at one set all. Using his experience and confidence from a strong season, Querrey raced out to a 3-0 lead in set three and never looked back.

Notching his second title of the year, Querrey also won the Acapulco event earlier in 2017 over Rafa Nadal.

Kokkinakis, who was playing in his first-ever Tour final, defeated No. 1 seed Tomas Berdych in the semifinals. The young Australian had been injured for the past two seasons with a shoulder injury. He had entered Los Cabos as a wildcard. The 21-year-old is currently ranked No. 454 in the world but will improve his ranking to approximately No. 220 when Monday’s rankings are released.
