Nadal to Play in Madrid for Final Time
Electric champion and home-country favourite Rafael Nadal will play in front of his Spanish fans for seemingly the final time. Hampered by a multitude of injuries throughout the years, Nadal recently lost in the second round of the Barcelona Open to Alex de Minaur.
Nadal has won the Madrid Open on five occasions, with his last triumph coming in 2017.
Far from his best, it’s almost impossible to count out Nadal from any clay event, irrespective of his current form.
Swiatek Happy to be Back on Clay
Like Nadal, world No. 1 Swiatek is most comfortable on the clay of Europe. Winning the French Open on three occasions, Swiatek is primed for another stellar year on the clay.
Unmatched in her clay-court prowess, Swiatek is already the odds of favourite to win the French Open for a fourth time.
Alcaraz Injury Update
Two-tome defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will have some question marks looming over his head as he enters the Madrid Open. Having to pull out of the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open with a right arm injury, Alcaraz only has two more events to prepare his game for next month’s French Open.
Last playing at the Miami Open in March, Alcaraz will continue to be a favourite in Madrid when he takes to the court.
Sinner the Winner
Italian upstart Jannik Sinner will continue press forward to his goal of reaching world No. 1. Currently sitting at No. 2 in the world, Sinner owns three tiles on the year and only two losses.
The 22-year-old hard-hitting style will be well suited to the thin air in Madrid.
