Known as the toughest event in tennis, the French Open is played over 15 days on the crushed red brick of Paris.

Legendary Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who has won the event on 14 occasions, has hinted that this could very well be his last year on Tour.

Playing only two events to date in 2024, Nadal has been hampered with countless injuries throughout the years and it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to compete at a high level.

That said, the Mallorcan has vowed to give everything he has to play the French Open at least one more time.

“I think I was able to show myself and the rest of the world that when I was really trying, at a high % of intensity, my level was there to compete. I didn’t practice a lot, so that’s encouraged me to keep going.”

Joining Nadal in the 128 man field will be defending champion Novak Djokovic, Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz, Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner and upcoming Dane Holger Rune.

On the women’s side, three-time former winner Iga Swiatek will be overwhelming favourite to pick up her fourth title in the City of Lights.

Known for her devastating forehand and cool demeanour on court, Swiatek will have to fend off the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Naomi Osaka.

First held in 1891, the French Open remains one of the oldest and most prestigious events in the world.

With lots to see and explore in Paris during the fortnight, the French Open is truly a bucket list event for any tennis or sports fan.
