Wednesday’s action at Wimbledon featured two-time former winner Rafael Nadal reach the semifinals after he dismissed American Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 76(4).
Nadal, who has won the first two Majors of 2022 and is going for the Calendar year Grand Slam, will next face Nick Kyrgios, who dispatched Christian Garin 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(5).
Nadal’s encounter with Fritz featured the Spaniard hitting five aces, winning 70 percent of his first serve points, and breaking serve on eight occasions during the four hour and 21 minute encounter.
For Kyrgios, his contest was highlighted by 17 aces, 24 trips to the net and a total 35 winners.
On the women’s side, former winner Simona Halep eased her way into the semifinals after she dismissed Amanda Anisamova 6-2, 6-4 in one hour and three minutes. The Romanian was in total control of the contest from start to finish, striking three aces and breaking her opponent’s serve on three occasions.
Halep will next face Elena Rybakina, who needed three sets to dispatch Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 51 minutes.
Thursday’s schedule of play at Wimbledon will feature the women’s semifinals, while Friday will showcase the men’s final four. Joining Nadal and Kyrgios on Friday will be top seed Novak Djokovic taking on local hero Cameron Norrie for a place in Sunday’s final.
