Popular Italian Matteo Berrettini captured his sixth career title on the ATP Tour on Sunday, defeating two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the finals of Stuttgart, Germany.
Needing two hours and 40 minutes to claim his crown, Berrettini used his potent arsenal from the back of the court to keep the superb defence of his opponent at bay.
Slamming 19 aces and winning 81 percent of his first serve points, Berrettini broke the serve of his British opponent on three occasions.
Leading their head-to-head meetings at 2-1, Berrettini will next see action at the Queen’s Club event in London. Murray will also be in the field.
Berrettini dismissed Oscar Otte in the semifinals, while Murray defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios.

Unheralded Dutch player Tim Van Rijthoven stunned the tennis world on Sunday in ‘S-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, dismissing top seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-1 in finals of the Libema Open.
Needing a mere one hour and five minutes to claim his title, Van Rijthoven won 84 percent of his first serve points, struck four aces and broke the serve of his opponent on four occasions.
Never winning a tour match before this week, Van Rijthoven defeated an impressive cast of players throughout the week, including Felix Auger-Aliassime and Taylor Fritz.
Van Rijthoven will be ranked No. 106 when Monday’s rankings are released, an improvement of nearly 100 spots from last week. Medvedev will return to No. 1 in the world as of result of Novak Djokovic dropping his French Open points from last season.
