German Alexander Zverev won the biggest title of his career on Sunday at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, defeating Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-1 to capture the Gold Medal. Needing 79 minutes to prevail, Zverev won 79 percent of his first serve points and struck 22 winners.
Improving to 3-2 against Khachanov in lifetime meetings, Zverev currently owns 16 career titles and is ranked No. 5 in there world. The US Open finalist defeated top seed Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
Khachanov, who took home the Silver Medal, defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in the semifinals.
Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova dismissed Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic for the women’s Gold Medal. Bencic had won the women’s Gold Medal in singles on Saturday. The Brazilian team of Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani captured the Bronze Medal in women’s doubles.
