Zverev Wins 2024 Italian Open Over Jarry
No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev captured his second Italian Open title on Sunday in Rome, Italy, defeating surprise finalist Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-5.
Needing one hour and 41 minutes to seal his victory, Zverev slammed six aces, hit 13 winners, broke serve on two and won 95 percent of his first serve points.
Improving to 5-2 against Jarry in lifetime meetings, Zverev will move up to No. 4 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
The 27-year-old German will next see action at Roland Garros next week.
Jarry, who was appearing in his first-ever Masters 1000 final, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Tommy Paul earlier in the event.
The Chilean, now 28 year-old, will be ranked No. 17 in world when the latest rankings are released.
Swiatek Reigns Supreme in Rome
World No, 1 Iga Swiatek continued to prove in Rome that her dominance on the WTA is far from over.
Dismantling No. 2 seed Aryan Sabalenka in the finals on Saturday, Swiatek will now enter the French Open as the clear favourite to claim her fourth title in the City of Lights.
Other contenders to the crown in Paris will include Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Qinwen Zheng.
The 2024 French Open main draw gets underway next Sunday in France.
