The end of the year is a good time for some to reflect on the 12 months that have just been and gone. In the world of tennis, there have been some many memorable stories, shocking upsets, and classic matches that people will remember for many years to come. They will hold especially fond memories if you placed a winning wager on the outcome of any of these games.

With a full 2022 ATP calendar to look forward to, many bettors will already be looking at odds for the top tournaments. That is why we’re going to give you a run down of the 4 Grand Slam events, and look at the odds to see who we think will win each of the tournaments.
Australian Open, 17th- 30th January
The first big event on the 2022 ATP Calendar is the Australian Open, held in Melbourne, Victoria. Ordinarily, the overwhelming favourite for this event would be Novak Djokovic, given that he has won the competition 9 times previously. However, there is still some uncertainty as to whether he’ll be appearing in Australia, as he is unvaccinated, and Australia is particularly strict on people they allow to enter their country, especially if they aren’t double jabbed.
So, let’s for a second assume that Djokovic isn’t allowed to compete. Who then is the favourite for glory down under? Daniil Medvedev made it to the final in 2021, and while he was beaten by Djokovic, the Russian has had a great year, only getting better with each game. Therefore, with betting odds of 11/4, Medvedev could well be worth betting on for this one.
French Open, 16th May – 5th June
Of all the major tournaments, only one of them takes place on a clay court. Some players find this to be their favourite playing surface, whilst others are very much against it. In 2020, Djokovic certainly adapted his game to the surface, as he went on to win the final, beating the Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in a 5 set thriller. To go on to win when 2 sets down shows why many believe the Serbian player to be the greatest of all time.
Will he find success in Paris once again? Quite possibly. However, by the time May comes around, if he has managed to stay injury free, Rafa Nadal should be well back up to speed. He is a clay court expert, having won the French Open a staggering 13 times. No wonder he is the current betting favourite, with odds of 7/4. It is dependent on him not suffering another injury between now and then, but we are all hoping to see Nadal at his very best yet again in Paris next year.
Wimbledon, 27th June – 10th July
For many tennis fans, their favourite ATP tournament is Wimbledon, held at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in South London. It is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world, and therefore carries a lot of prestige. It won’t surprise anyone to see that Djokovic is the current bookmakers favourite to win the 2022 edition, as he did in 2021, and on 5 other occasions. It is hard to see past his odds of 11/10.
If not him, then who else? Maybe Matteo Berrettini. The Italian was a losing finalist last year, and managed to take a set off his Serbian opponent, before Djokovic fought back. At 10/1, it could be worth taking a punt on Berrettini next June.
US Open, 29th August – 11th September
Last, and very not least, we have the US Open, held in Flushing Meadows, New York. It is another hard court, like the Australian Open, though it is held on outside courts instead of indoor ones, which could play a factor in players’ performances.
The 2021 final was the only one of the 3 Grand Slams that Djokovic didn’t win, as he was beaten in straight sets by Medvedev. It was a sight to behold, as the crowd were actively booing every single point that the Russian won, but despite shaking his confidence, it actually spurred him on, having the complete opposite effect.
Medvedev has short odds of 3/1, which are definitely with betting on, but most bookmakers agree that Djokovic will be out for revenge here, and have him as 6/4 favourite.
Whether any of these players will actually win these ATP tournaments, we really can’t say right now. All we do know is we just can’t wait for the 2022 action to start.
