20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer is set to bow out from tennis at the end of the 2022 Laver Cup. The Swiss is one of the greatest players in history and he will be a huge loss to the sport.
Here is a look at Federer’s best tournament wins in his career.
Wimbledon Epic Success (2007)
Of all the Grand Slams Federer had success in, the grass at Wimbledon was the one where he shined the most. He was victorious in the British event on eight occasions, including in 2007, when he won an epic final against Rafael Nadal.
Federer and Nadal had some great battles on Centre Court in London. Between them, they lifted the trophy 10 times. The Spaniard could extend that number next year, as he is 9/1 in the betting to win Wimbledon 2023. In the final of 2007, the match went all the way to five sets, as both players had moments where they were on top. Federer held his nerve to win two tie-breakers, while in the final set, his quality shone, as he prevailed 6-2 to come out on top in the Grand Slam event.
French Open Success (2009)
Before the 2009 French Open, Federer had failed to win the tournament in 10 attempts. He had been in the final on three occasions but was beaten by Nadal in each of those matches.
Federer needed to prevail in Paris to complete the Career Grand Slam. He finally achieved that in 2009, beating Sweden’s Robin Soderling in the final. It was a big achievement for the former world number one, as clay was his least favoured surface.
In total, Federer made the French Open final four times, but he only once lifted the trophy. His win in 2009 was vital as he deserved to end his career with the Calendar Grand Slam like all the great players have been able to do through the course of history.
Last Grand Slam Win in Australia Open (2018)
At 36 years old, Federer became the oldest male player to land a Grand Slam singles title when he won the 20th and final major event of his career at the 2018 Australian Open. He defeated Marin Cilic in a five-set encounter, prevailing 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Federer proved he could still match it with the best players in the world in Australia, despite his age, which is probably why he went on playing for another four years after this tournament.
Nadal and Novak Djokovic have since also reached 20 Grand Slam wins, but Federer was the first to do so. He had a lot of fond memories from Melbourne, and this is likely to be his favourite.
Federer is sure to get a great reception in his final appearance at the Laver Cup. He will also be welcome at any tennis tournament he visits as a spectator in the future.
