Wimbledon—London, England
Unseeded Czech Marketa Vondrousova claimed her first Major title on Saturday at Wimbledon, defeating No. 6 seed Ons Jabuer 6-4, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 20 minutes to prevail, Vondrousova won 61 percent of her first serve points, 71 percent of her net points and converted on six of seven break points.
Improving to 4-3 against Jabeur in lifetime meetings, Vondrousova will be a top 10 player on Monday. The 24-year-old defeated five seeded players en-route to the title.
Jabuer, who fell to 0-3 in Major finals, lost in last year’s Wimbledon and US Open finals.
Men’s Final Preview
Sunday’s final day at The Championships will feature No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz taking on No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic in a third career meeting. Djokovic recently dismissed Alcaraz in the semifinals of last month’s French Open and Alcaraz dispatched the Serb in their first career meeting at the Madrid Open last year.
