Underdog strategies for Australian Open 2025 live Wagering

The 2025 Australian Open is the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, and the tournament is structured so that top-seeded players face lower-seeded players in the opening rounds. This means there’ll be a lot of heavy favorite to underdog clashes at the start. With underdogs being the clearly weaker player in a match, wagering on one is a tricky affair.

But when you do it right, wagering on the underdog is a strategy that could pay off, especially if you take advantage of some detail that the bookmaker may have missed when setting the odds. Underdog wagering strategies for live wagering are the focus of this article, and fortunately.

When wagering in play, there are even more opportunities for winning wagers.

Watch for shifts in momentum

This is the most basic advantage of live wagering – the fact that you can place wagers based on how the game is playing out. In this case, what you need to look out for is signs that the underdog is gaining confidence by holding their opponent’s serve and breaking the serve.

Place wagers per set

You don’t have to wager on the underdog to win the whole game. You can wager on them winning a set when their confidence is up.

Wait for fatigue to set in

Favorites who’ve been back to back on the court and playing demanding matches are likely to get affected by fatigue more so than underdogs who may not have been under similar stress. If a favorite starts looking tired, that’s the time to pounce and back the underdog.

Be quick on your fingers

Live wagering odds can fluctuate very quickly. So once you identify potential for things to turn in favor of the underdog, place your live wager immediately. You may be able to do this in time before the bookie can shorten the odds.

Wager with sportsbooks that have the best odds

Wagering at sites with the most competitive odds offers better profit potential. There are several that offer great prices on tennis tournaments, like the Australian Open. You can check the list here at Cheekypunter. You’ll find these sites have exciting bonuses on offer, too.

Keep the cash-out option handy

The cash-out feature is not just for cutting down on losses when your wager is failing. The wise way to think about it is that cashout helps you to lock in your profits while the game is still going in your favor.

Going against the crowd and wagering on the underdog is a strategy of its own. They’re clearly the weaker team in a match, but if you can find value in underdog odds, then this is a wager that can pay really well. It’s happened several times in the past, with the likes of Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic claiming title wins as underdogs in the early stages of their careers.
