Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas won the biggest title of his career on Sunday in London, England, defeating Dominic Thiem in three thrilling sets to win the Nitto ATP Finals. Recording a 6-7(6), 6-2, 7-6(4) victory, Tsitsipas hit nine aces, won 83 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
The two hour and 35 minute contest, which was the final official ATP match of the year, saw many riveting ground-stroke rallies by the two one-hand backhand stars. Tsitsipas, who previously won titles in Estoril and Marseiile earlier this year, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev and Danill Medvedev during the event. The 21-year-old began the 2019 season by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open.
Thiem, who also had a remarkable year on Tour, dismissed Federer, Novak Djokovic and Zverev in the round robin portion in London. Thiem won five titles in 2019 and currently stands at No. 5 in the world.
