Thompson Reaches Paris Masters Quarterfinals; Fernandez Advances in Hong Kong
Thursday’s schedule of play at the Rolex Paris Masters in Paris, France featured Australian Jordan Thompson reaching the quarterfinal stages of the event, defeating local talent Adrian Mannarino 7-5, 7-6(5).
In a physically challenging match that lasted two hours and 21 minutes, Thompson used his fitness and court speed to hit 22 winners, strike seven aces and break serve on three occasions.
The 30-year-old will next face either No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz or Frenchman Ugo Humbert.
Elsewhere, matches that are still to come on Thursday will include No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 8 seed Grigor Dimitrov, No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 13 seed Holger Rune and former winner Karen Khachanov.
Frenchmen Arthur Fils and Arthur Cazaux will also be in action.
Friday’s action in Paris will feature all quarterfinal matches.

Hong Kong Tennis Open—Hong Kong, China
Thursday’s results at the Hong Kong Tennis Open in China featured former US Open finalist and defending champion Leylah Fernandez racing into the quarterfinals, defeating Kimberly Birrell from Australia 6-1, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 20 minutes to advance, Fernandez struck two aces and won 80 percent of her first serve points. The Canadian will next face No. 9 seed Bernarda Pera for a spot in the semifinals.
Other winners on Thursday included No. 8 seed Cristina Bucsa, former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin, and Russian Anastasia Zakharova. Zakharova ousted No. 7 seed Varvara Gracheva 6-3, 6-1.
Friday’s quarterfinal schedule will also include top seed Diana Shnaider and No. 2 seed Katie Boulter.
