World No. 1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek reached the finals of the French Open on Thursday, defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 6-4.
The world’s best player will face surprise finalist Karolina Muchova on Saturday. The 26-year-old Czech player ousted No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-5 in three hours and 13 minutes.
Saturday’s final will feature Swiatek aiming to win her fourth career Major, while Muchova will be taking part in her first-ever Grand Slam final.
Muchova owns a 1-0 career head-to-head lead over Swiatek in Tour matches.
Sabalenka, who was attempting to in her second Major of the season, will now head to Wimbledon in search of more Grand Slam glory.
Friday’s schedule in Paris will highlight the men’s semifinals.
The match of the year so far will see No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz take on No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 4 seed Casper Ruud versus No. 22 seed Alexander Zverev.
Alcaraz will be looking to win his first French Open title, while Djokovic will be in search of the all-time Slam record of 23rd if he’s able to prevail.
Both Ruud and Zverev are still in search of their first career Majors.
