Sunday’s action at Wimbledon featured American Jessica Pegula and 16-year-old phenom Mirra Andreeva advancing to the quarterfinals.
Pegula breezed past Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 6-3, and Andreeva defeated No. 22 seed Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 7-5.
Former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova ousted No. 32 seed Marie Bouzkova 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Vondrousova will face Pegula on Tuesday and Andreeva will take on inform American Madison Keys on Monday.
Later in the day, top see Iga Swiatek needed three hours and 3 minutes to dispatch No. 14 seed Belinda Bencic 6-7(4), 7-6(2), 6-3. Swiatek will contest her quarterfinal match against Elina Svitolina. Svitolina needed two hours and 46 minutes to get past No. 19 seed Victoria Azarenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(9).
On the men’s side, No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev needed five sets to dismiss No. 23 seed Alexander Bublik 7-5, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-7(5), 6-4. Rublev will next face either Novak Djokovic or Hubert Hurkacz.
No. 8 seed Jannik Sinner also reached the quarterfinals, defeating Daniel Elahi Galan 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-3. Sinner will next face Roman Safiullin, who ousted No. 26 seed Denis Shapovalov 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
