Unseeded American Sloane Stephens won her maiden Grand Slam title in Flushing Meadows, New York on Saturday, defeating fellow American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-0. In a comprehensive performance that lasted 61 minutes, Stephens broke serve at 3-2 in the first set and never lost game for the rest of the match. Improving to 2-0 against Keys in lifetime meetings, Stephens won 73 percent of her first serve points, 64 percent of her second serve points and hit 10 winners throughout the encounter.
Keys, who was suffering from a leg injury, committed hit 30 unforced errors to 18 winners and went 0-3 on break point conversions.
Stephens, who reach the semifinals in Toronto and Cincinnati over the summer, defeated former winner Venus Williams in the semifinals.
