Wimbledon—London, England
In a comprehensive display from start-to-finish, No. 7 seed Simona Halep captured her first Wimbledon title against No. 11 seed Serena Wililams, 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday in London, England.
Needing only 56 minutes to claim her crown, Halep hit 13 winners to only three unforced errors, while breaking the American on four occasions. Using her court speed to great effect, Halep continuously ran down every ball from her powerful opponent. Winning 83 percent of her first serve points, Halep also won both of her points at the net. Halep now owns two Major titles, after claiming the crown in Paris in 2018.
Never finding her rhythm during the short encounter, Williams remains in the hunt for Major No. 24. The soon-to-be 38-year-old recently lost in the finals of the US Open as well as the Wimbledon final in 2018.
