Former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova won her first match after a 15-month suspension in Stuttgart, Germany on Wednesday, defeating former US Open finalist Roberta Vinci 7-5, 6-3. Hitting 11 aces, winning 81 percent of her first serve points and breaking serve on four occasions, Sharapova needed one hour and 44 minutes to claim her victory. The 30-year-old Russian will next face Ekaterina Makarova in round two.
