No. 2 seed Serena Williams capped off a memorable fortnight at the Australian Open on Saturday by winning her 23rd career Major. Defeating her sister Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4, Serena needed one hour and 21 minutes to seal her title. Returning to No. 1 in the world with her victory, Serena hit 10 aces and broke serve on four occasions. Hitting four more winners to errors at 27-23, Serena moved into second place in the all-time Major’s court with 23 titles, trailing Margret Court, who has 24.
Venus, who was in search of her eighth career Grand Slam, also leaves Melbourne with an an impressive fortnight behind her. The 36-year-old defeated the likes of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Coco Vandeweghe en-route to the final.
