Sabalenka, Tabilo Reach Semifinals at Italian Open
Wednesday’s action at the Italian Open in Rome, Italy saw world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka reach the semifinals of the event, defeating No. 9 seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 12 minutes to advance, Sabalenka hit two aces, won 81 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
Improving to 3-0 against Ostapenko in lifetime meetings, Sabalenka will next face No. 13 seed Danielle Collins or No. 24 seed Victoria Azarenka for a place in the finals.
Tabilo Continues to Roll
Canadian born Chilean Alejandro Tabilo advanced to the semifinals of the Italian Open on Wednesday, dismissing Zhizhen Zhang 6-3, 6-4.
Defeating top seed Novak Djokovic and No. 16 seed Karen Khachanov earlier in the tournament, Tabilo will next face either No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev or No. 11 seed Taylor Fritz for spot in Sunday’s final.
Tabilo, now 26 years old, will move up to a minimum of No. 25 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Thursday’s schedule in Rome will include the continuation of men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches.
