Thursday’s action at the Miami Open saw former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina advance to the final, defeating Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(2).
Striking 11 aces, winning 82 percent of her first serve points and breaking serve on two occasions, Rybakina will next face either No. 14 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova or American Danielle Collins.
Alexandrova has had an extraordinary tournament, defeating top seed Iga Swiatek and No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula.
Collin, a former Australian Open finalist, will look to retire after this season.
On the men’s side, No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev needed one hour and 37 minutes to dismiss Fabian Marozsan. Advancing by a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5, Zverev will await the winner of top seed Carlos Alcaraz or No. 11 seed Grigor Dimitrov.
