Rublev Wins 2024 Madrid Open
No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev captured his second Masters 1000 title on Sunday in Madrid, Spain, defeating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
In a match that lasted two hours and 48 minutes, Rublev slammed seven aces, hit 25 winners and broke the serve of his opponent on two occasions.
Improving to 5-1 against Auger-Aliassime in lifetime meetings, Rublev will move up to No. 6 in the world when the latest rankings are released. The Russian now owns 16 career titles.
Auger-Aliassime, who has had an awful year on Tour prior to Madrid, will move up to No. 20 in the world on Monday. The 23-year-old benefitted from two retirements and one walkover to reach the finals. The Montreal native owns five career titles on the ATP Tour.

Top seed Iga Swiatek won the match of the year so far on either Tour on Saturday in Madrid, defeating No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in a third set tiebreaker.
Swiatek will now head into Roland Garros as the clear favourite to win the title.
Both the WTA and ATP Tour will now shift their focuses to the final Masters 1000 event of the year on clay in Rome, Italy.
Held at the Foro Italico, the Internazionali BNL d’Italia will be highlighted by top tennis talent for the Italian fans.
The Italian Open will take place from May 7 – 19th, 2024.
