Monday’s action at the US Open is underway, and No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev has upset No. 7 seed Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
Needing two hours and 26 minutes to advance, Rublev hit 11 aces, won 80 percent of his first serve points and broke his British opponent on four occasions. Leading their head-to-head 2-1, Rublev will next face either No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal or No. 22 seed Frances Tiafoe for place in the final four.
Elsewhere, No. 9 seed Jessica Pegula toppled No. 21 seed Petra Kvitova 6-3, 6-2. The American will next face either top seed Iga Swiatek or Jule Niemeier in the quarterfinals.
Tonight’s schedule of play in New York will feature No. 6 seed Aryna Sabelenka vs. No. 19 seed Danielle Collins, which will be followed by No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz taking on 2014 winner Marin Cilic.
Tuesday’s featured matches will see Casper Ruud, Coco Gauff, Nick Kyrgios and Ons Jabeur all in action.
