Reigning Australian Open champion Roger Federer announced today that he will not play the year’s second Grand Slam at the French Open, which begins in Paris on May 28th.
The 18-time Major winner will now shift his focus to the grass-court season, and three successive events on his favorite surface. Federer is scheduled to play Stuttgart, Halle and Wimbledon before transitioning to the hard-courts of North America.
Federer has not played a tour event since winning the Miami Open over Rafael Nadal in March. The Swiss star stands at 19-1 on the season with three titles.
