Montreal, March 12, 2014 – Following losses by Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) yesterday at the BNP Paribas Open, Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) was the final Canadian remaining in Indian Wells.
For the third time in four meetings, Raonic defeated world no. 6 Andy Murray of Great Britain 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals. The Canadian started the match well, but lost the final ten points of the opening set to find himself in an early hole. The two players contested a tight second set and it was Raonic who was able to break Murray for the first time in the twelfth game. He carried the momentum into the final set to advance to the quarter-finals for the first time in Indian Wells. The victory comes on an important day for Raonic who emigrated from Montenegro to Canada with his family exactly twenty years ago today.
Raonic will face Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine in the quarter-finals. Dolgopolov defeated Rafael Nadal and Fabio Fognini en route to the final eight. It will be the first meeting between the two players.
