Paul, Arnaldi Advance at Montreal Masters; Badosa Continues to Roll in Toronto
Wednesday’s action at the National Bank Open in Montreal featured Olympic medalist Tommy Paul advancing to the round of 32, defeating Luciano Darderi 6-4, 7-6(2).
Needing one hour and 45 minutes to advance, Paul hit nine aces, won 79 percent of his first serve points and broke his Italian opponent on one occasion.
Paul will next face either Denis Shapovalov or Brandon Nakashima for a place in the round of 16.
Other winners on the day included Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Matteo Arnaldi, Ugo Humbert, Rinky Hijikata, Jordan Thompson and No. 11 seed Ben Shelton.
Still to come on Wednesday in Montreal, No. 14 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gael Monfils will be in action.
Badosa Wins in Toronto
Fresh off of her victory in Washington, D.C., Spaniard Paula Badosa had another impressive victory on Wednesday at the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada.
Defeating Danish star Clara Tauson 6-1, 6-4, Badosa will next face No. 4 seed Jelena Ostapenko on Thursday.
Other results on the day saw former finalist and No. 13 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and Belgium star Elise Mertens advance.
Featured matches that are still to come on Wednesday will be highlighted by Naomi Osaka taking on Ons Jabeur and Leylah Fernandez facing Zhang Shuai.
