Paul Advances in Adelaide; Shelton Falls in Auckland; Anisiamova Wins in Hobart
Wednesday’s action at the Adelaide International featured top seed Tommy Paul advance to the quarterfinals, defeating lucky loser Manuel Guinard 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Needing one hour and 52 minutes to advance, Paul hit nine aces, won 72 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions. Winning three titles in 2024, Paul will next face Rinky Hijikata for a place in the semifinals.
Hijikata followed up his first round victory over David Goffin with a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5) win over No. 7 seed Brandon Nakashima.
Other winners on the day saw No. 2 seed Sebastian Korda, No. 5 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, Benjamin Bonzi, Marcos Giron and Miomir Kecmanovic all reach the quarterfinals.
Thursday’s schedule will feature Paul, Korda and Auger-Aliassime in action.
On the women’s side, top seed Jessica Pegula and No. 2 seed Emma Navarro both reached the quarterfinals. Pegula ousted Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-1 and Navvaro defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-6(4), 6-4.
Other results on the day saw No. 3 seed Daria Kasatkina, No. 6 seed Diana Shnaider, Yulia Putintseva, Liudmila Samsonova, Madison Keys and Ashlyn Krueger all reach the final eight.
Krueger dismissed No. 5 seed Paula Badosa in three sets, and Keys took out No. 8 seed Jelena Ostapenka in three sets.
Thursday’s action will feature Pegula, Navarro and Kasatkina in action.

ASB Classic—Auckland, New Zealand
The top two seed crashed out of the ASB Classic on Wednesday in Auckland, New Zealand.
First up, No. 2 seed and defending champion Alejandro Tabilo lost to American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Basavareddy, ranked No. 133 in the world, hit nine aces and won 73 percent of his first serve points. He will next face No. 8 seed Alex Michelsen.
Later in the day, top seed Ben Shelton was eliminated from the event, losing to Jakub Mensik 7-6(2), 4-6, 7-5.
The entertaining encounter lasted two hours and 38 minutes and featured 10 aces from Mensik and seven from Shelton.
Mensik will next face No. 7 seed Nuno Borges. The Portuguese star defeated Mariano Navone 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Other results on the day saw Facundo Diaz Acosta, Roberto Carballes Baena, Zizou Bergs and Gael Monfils all reach the quarterfinals.
Diaz Acosta upsets No. 3 seed Sebastian Baez in straight sets and Carballes Baena got past No. 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo in two sets.
Monfils continued his great week in Auckland by following up his come-from-behind victory over Pedro Martinez in the first-round to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1, 7-6(5).
On Thursday, all quarterfinal matches will be played.

Hobart International—Hobart, Australia
No. 3 seed Amanda Anisiamova raced into the quarterfinals of the Hobart International on Wednesday, dismissing Anna Bondar 6-3, 6-4.
The American, who reached the finals of the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada last year, will next face Elina Avanesyan from Armenia in the quarterfinals. No. 6 seed Avanesyan ousted Greet Minnen from Belgium 6-2, 6-2.
Other winners on the day saw top seed Dayana Yastremska, No. 2 seed Elise Mertens, Veronika Kudermetova, Sofia Kenin, Mccartney Kessler, and Maya Joint all advance to the quarterfinals.
Joint defeated No. 4 seed Magda Linette 6-1, 6-1.
Thursday’s schedule will see the top three seeds in action.
