Osaka Advances to Second Round of 2025 Miami Open
Tuesday’s WTA Results from the Miami Open
Opening day action at the 2025 Miami Open in Florida saw four-time former Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka advance to the second round, defeating Yuliia Starodubtseva from Ukraine 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In a match that lasted two hours and 28 minutes, Osaka hit 10 aces, won 75 percent of her first serve points and broke her 23-year-old opponent on four occasions.
Looking to recapture the form that saw her reach No. 1 in the world and dominate the sport, Osaka will next face No. 24 seed Liudmila Samsonova for a place in round three.
Other winners on Day 1 in South Florida included Americans Alycia Parks and Viktoriya Tomova, Magda Linette, Lucia Bronzetti, Sorana Cirstea, Rebecca Sramkova and Katerina Siniakova.
Tuesday’s schedule also featured the conclusion of men’s second round qualifying.
Wednesday’s order of play at the Hard Rock Stadium will see the continuation of women’s first round matches and the first day of the men’s main draw.
Nick Kyrgios, Gael Monfils, Emma Raducanu and Victoria Azarenka will be in action.
