Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka claimed his third career title on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia, defeating No. 4 seed Jordan Thompson 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2.
Using his court craft and movement to great effect, the 28-year-old hit 26 winners, broke serve on two occasions and won 73 percent of his first serve points.
Known as one of the most consistent players on Tour, Nishioka will move up to No. 50 in the world on Monday.
Thompson, who has had his best season has as a pro, claimed the title in Los Cabos, Mexico earlier this year, and also made the finals of Wimbledon in doubles.
Thompson will be ranked No. 35 when the latest rankings are released.
The Tour calendar will now shift its attention to the 500 level event in Washington, D.C
Sadly, the Atlanta Open held its tournament in Georgia for the final time in 2024. The event will be relocated in 2025.
