Nishioka Reaches Atlanta Quarterfinals
Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka reached the quarterfinals of the Atlanta Open on Thursday, defeating American Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-4.
Using his court speed to great effect, Nishioka hit 16 winners during the one hour and 27 minute encounter.
Nishioka will next face either No. 3 seed Frances Tiafoe or Aslan Karatsev for a place in the final four.
Still to come on Thursday, top seed Ben Shelton will face Juncheng Shang in the night session.

Generali Open—Kitzbuhel, Austria
Matteo Berrettini won his eighth match in a row on the ATP Tour on Thursday, defeating Nicolas Moreno De Alboran 7-6(3), 6-3.
Needing one hour and 51 minutes to prevail, Berrettini hammered seven aces, won 89 percent of his first serve points and broke the serve of his American opponent on one occasion.
The Italian, who won in Gstaad, Switzerland last week and Marrakech, Morocco earlier this year, also made the finals in Stuttgart, Germany before Wimbledon.
Berrettini will next face Yannick Hanfmann for a place in the finals. Hanfmann ousted Thiago Seyboth Wild 7-6(2), 6-4.

Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag—Umag, Croatia
No. 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo raced into the semifinals in Umag, Croatia on Thursday, defeating talented Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(2).
Cerundolo, who has one of the biggest forehands on Tour, hit 26 winners, served one ace and saved four of six break points during the two hour and 33 minute contest.
The Argentine will next face either top seed Andrey Rublev or Fabian Marozsan for spot in Saturday’s final.
Still to come on Thursday in Umag, No. 2 seed Lorenzo Musetti will face Dusan Lajovic.
Jakub Mensik defeated Chun-Hsin Tseng 6-0, 6-4 earlier in the day.
