Friday’s action at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature former champion Borna Coric in first round action.
Dropping in the rankings due to injury, Coric is currently ranked No. 90 in the world. The former world No. 12 and winner in Cincinnati in 2022, has won three titles during his career. The 28-year-old has won titles on all three surfaces: Halle, Germany on grass, Marrakech, Morocco on clay, and in Cincinnati on hard-courts.
Coric will go up against Emilo Nava from the United States when play gets underway at 11am EST.
Other matches to follow on Friday will include Kei Nishikori facing Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Jensen Brooksby taking on Alexandre Muller, Learner Tien going up against Leandro Riedi, and Reilly Opelka playing his first round match against Hugo Dellien.
On Thursday, Joao Fonseca defeated Yunchaokete Bu 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, and Corentin Moutet advanced over McKenzie McDonald 7-5, 6-3.
Fonseca improved to 16-12 on the season, and Moutet continued his good form by collecting his 21st win of 2025.
Collins Returns to Cincinnati
Fiery American Danielle Collins returns to the Cincinnati Open on Friday to take on fellow American Taylor Townsend.
Collins, a former winner at the Miami Open, and finalist at the Australian Open, will look to reach round two against the No. 1 doubles player in the world.
Townsend continues to post wins both the singles and doubles court, courtesy of her great lefty serve.
Other matches to watch out for on Friday will include Alycia Parks taking on two-time Major winner Barbora Krejcikova, Maria Sakkari facing Kamilla Rakhimova, and Caroline Garcia facing Sonay Kartal.
On Thursday, seven-time Major winner Venus Williams was defeated by recent Montreal quarterfinalist Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-4.
Williams recently returned to Washington, D.C., where she won a round against Peyton Sterns. The 45-year-old will likely play the US Open later this month.
Williams is a two-time US Open champion.
Other results from Thursday saw Markrta Vondrousova, Sorana Cirstea, Anastasia Potapova and Eva Lys all advance.
Top seeds Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will be in action later this weekend.
The Cincinnati Open is the second Masters 1000 event of the Summer following the Canadian Open in both Toronto and Montreal.
Ben Shelton captured the men’s crown over Karen Khachanov in a third set tiebreaker on Thursday evening, and Canadian star Victoria Mboko stunned four-time Major winner Naomi Osaka to win her first-career title in Montreal in three sets.
